Texas Lounge

The Texas Lounge is named from the tradition of calling the most spacious cabin, typically located on the third deck above the water, the "Texas".  The name was eventually applied to the entire deck including this entertaining lounge. From the deck below, you make your way to the festivities using the Grand Staircase, a magnificent, vertical promenade often used to showcase the gowns and finest fashions of bygone eras.  When the Forward Cabin Lounge served as the former ship's dining area, the handsome couples would descend the staircase for their grand entrance to the Captain's Dinner.

The Texas Lounge is a favorite spot to enjoy a cocktail much of the day and night. During daylight hours people gather for conversation and cards. Early evening hours find guests collecting for pre-dinner drinks and live music, Friday and Saturday. And at night, after dinner and entertainment in the Orleans Room, those guests with a taste for night life can gather around the Texas lounge piano to enjoy late night pleasures with kindred spirits over nightcaps and the occasional song.

Outside, on the foredeck, you can take pleasure in the open air and Tennessee river and see a historic roof bell. Forged by Kaye & Co. of Louisville in 1883, this bell rang on the sidewheeler St. Louis when Mark Twain rode her from New Orleans to Missouri in 1885. If you want to stretch your legs you can head aft, where you  will find the best view of the ship's magnificent paddlewheel. Everywhere you go on the Legendary Delta Queen, the tales of yesterday are waiting to be discovered.
